According to a friend, the one who could wholeheartedly get behind a campaign by GW to convince people the sky was green -- and fervently believe it -- scoffs at global warming. He doesn’t disagree the climate is changing, but it’s a natural process, something we have had not part in and can’t stop. And he has proof. Just the other day a news report said that more and more scientists were coming around to his way of thinking. Guess he listens to a different news source than I do.
But I’m not debating the pros and cons of climate change here. I’m challenging the mentality that spurs one to think on the dark side. I never understood giving up. I never understood ignoring a problem because there was nothing I could do about it. And I never understood doing nothing – even if it was hopeless. I’d much rather do something and discover I was wrong, than do nothing and discover I was even more wrong.
Here’s something each of us can do:
1. Changing three incandescent lights to compact fluorescent lights can save about 300 lbs. of CO2 per year.
2. Turning thermostats down two degrees lower in winter and two degrees warmer than usual in summer can save about 2,000 lbs. of CO2 per year.
3. Unplugging one appliance when it is not being used saves about 1,000 lbs. of CO2 per year.
If everyone made even one of these changes, how could it not make a difference?
